Taurus is the zodiac sign of people born between
April 20th and May 20th. It is the second sign
of the zodiac, following Aries and preceding
Gemini. Taurus is associated with the element
earth, and is therefore often associated with
the color brown and other earth tones. Taurus
is ruled by the planet Venus. The symbol ascribed
to the sign of Taurus is the bull.
Funnily enough, the term “bull-headed” often
applies to Taureans; they are among the strongest
signs in terms of accomplishing tasks. This
trait is due to their reliable persistence in
moving towards the completion of projects. This
persistence, however, may relate to their stubbornness,
another trait suggested by the term "bull-headed;"
Taureans are known to be stubborn, and may become
argumentative in upholding their positions.
A Fixed Quality is attached to Taurus, making
Taureans stable, steady, resolute, determined,
and self-assured. In addition to accounting
for the stubbornness of Taureans, the Fixed
Quality helps check the tendency toward indulgence
that Taurus' association with Venus and the
Second House, the House of Possessions, gives
them. Though their need for physical pleasure
can lead to a focus on the acquisition and ownership
of money and other material goods that may border
on materialism and even greed, the conservative
nature of an earth sign allows them to be cautious
and practical rather than extravagant.
The Fixed Quality also make Taureans even-tempered;
reliable, functioning citizens; and grants them
their greatest strength: remarkable stability
and determination. The methodical perseverance
of the Taurus-born allows them to remain determined
and productive even while others have given
up long ago. For this reason, Taureans are among
the most dependable of the zodiac signs.
Because of the fixation on material possessions
that results from their association with Venus
and the House of Possessions, Taureans may find
themselves overly concerned with trivial matters
such as status, and may even be viewed as snobs.
However, though their stubbornness and often
strong opinions may cause them to appear judgmental,
they tend to be tolerant and gentle, and are
patient and dependable.
Taureans' affinity for the Earth causes many
of them to find themselves outdoors in their
free time. Many Taurus-born like to engage in
physical activities while outdoors and, like
the bull, may also appreciate tests of their
strength. Those less inclined to being physically
active or exploring outdoor activities may find
that their tendency to focus on beauty and pleasure
dominates their choice in entertainment; these
Taureans tend to partake in activities that
allow them to appreciate art, music, and culture,
or create art or music themselves.
